Aruna Sairam gets Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Jayashree Gopal and Grand Master Srinath Narayanan felicitated by Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk

Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk presented well known carnatic vocalist Padma Shri Aruna Sairam with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Jayashree Gopal with the Vocational Excellence Award and Chess Grand Master Srinath Narayanan with the Young Achiever Award.

Rtn. Ravi Krishnan, President said, “In the area of Vocational services, the club runs a project that help poor students in gaining skills (CNC training programs) that will make them employable and  help them in getting jobs in the engineering industry.  We collaborate with industry to do this. As a part of our work in vocational service, we give away Lifetime Achievement Awards, Vocational Excellence Awards and the Young Achiever Award.”

Padma Vibhushan Dr. V. Shanta, Chairperson, Adyar Cancer Institute was the Chief Guest and gave away the Awards.




ABOUT THE AWARDS:

Lifetime Achievement Award – to outstanding citizens and role models who have through their body of work or service have created an impact for generations to come.

Vocational Excellence Awards – to outstanding  individuals from various streams. These are typically men and women who   through their hard work and integrity have attained leadership positions whether as career professionals in industry,  practicing professionals like lawyers and doctors, artists , sportspersons or community change agents and  who are therefore role models in our society.

Young Achiever Award – To outstanding individuals among the youth who excel in their art, profession or sport and who display passion and commitment to constantly challenging themselves to achieve greater heights and are therefore role models.

This is an annual event at our club. In the past we have under various categories recognized eminent persons such as: Mrs. Vyjayanthimala Bali, Mr. Vijayakumar –IPS, Mr. Sylendra Babu, Mr. S. P. Balasubramaniam, Mrs. Y. G. Parthasarathy, Mr. Gautam Menon .

Rotary club Of Chennai Kilpauk is a 19 year old club and is part of the Rotary International District 3230, Chennai.

The Rotary Club, undertake worthwhile community service projects targeted at the underprivileged sections of the society especially the disabled and special children.  Through our “Helping Hands” project initiative, over the years, we have supported more than a thousand disabled people with prosthetics, tricycles and wheelchairs.

Similarly, this year, through  “Joy Of Sound” initiative transform the way hearing impaired are taught in special schools that we support by delivering  smart classrooms, hearing aids, training to teachers at an outlay of  over Rs 40 Lakhs.
