Beat My Robo Expo in the city

Life-saving and time-saving robots of students on display at `Beat My Robo’ Expo in the city

  • Machines sensing density of traffic to controlling power transmission were among around 50 innovative exhibits
  • Robotic Flag Hoisting and Cracker Blasting gave the event a special kickoff

Realising the importance of time and life, city school students have designed innovative robots and exhibited them at the third edition of `Beat My Robo’ inter-school robotic competition and robotic expo held today (26th November 2016) at Velammal Matriculation Hr Sec School, Mogappair. Automatic Traffic Signalling, Flood Alerts, Robot Controlled Transmission, Safe Drainage, Child Care and Safe Home concepts were show stealers.

Organised by Android Robo, a Chennai based Robotic Education Company, the event saw an overwhelming participation of over 500 students from schools in and around the city. The event kick-started with a bang with Robotic Flag Hoisting and Cracker Blasting.

Designed by Abishek S, Praveen Kumar M and Rohit Kannan S of Velammal Matriculation School, Mogappair (8th standard), the Automatic Traffic Signal unlike the conventional tool lets commuters save their valuable time with `Stop’, `Get Set’ and `Go’ based on the density of traffic. The untimed signal, reading the traffic, will allow vehicles from other direction flow through immediately after those from un-crowded road in the junction clear off without waiting for the prefixed duration to elapse.

The award-winning Robot Controlled Transmission by Logesh, Srivardhan, Sethu and Suriya of Jaya Jaya Sankara School (9th standard), will alert the electric board personnel once the power line gets cut off and also stop the flow of current.

The Child Care robot is devised to safeguard child from shocks from electrical equipments and prevent children from stepping out of the house, with alarms to parents. Ramsaran P, Madhusudhanan, Infant and Ranjan of CK School of Practical Knowledge, Cuddalore (5th, 5th, 6th and 7th standards, respectively) have invented this machine.

Safe Home by Hitesh and Gokul of Jaya Jaya Sankara School (9th and 8thstandard), Safe Drainage by Joshua, Lawrence J and Allen George of St. Annes Matriculation School (11th standard) and Controlled Water by Rudhramurthu R and  Ravichanran K of Kalaimagal Matriculation School (8th standard) are other noteworthy exhibits at the expo. Safe Home is a robotic system to safeguard if the Gas is not properly turned off, Safe Drainage alerts when manholes are not properly closed and Controlled Water to dispense water deciding on the quantity relevant to Access Card.

Also the expo will feature 10 major innovations displayed in the last edition, including Cautious Lake, Life Care Car, Automatic Toll Gate, Automatic Rest Room and E-Duster.

Aimed at making students respond positively to various challenges of life, the event apart from expo also witnessed participation of students in large numbers in competition across Program the Robot, My Presentation, Path Finder, Robo Soccer and My Innovation categories.

Mr. Peter Sahayaraj, Educationist, inaugurated the event. Ms. Jayashree Gosh, Principal, Anna Adarsh College for Women, gave away prizes worth Rs. 1,00,000 to the winners of the competition and expo (See Annexure for the winners list). Shri Vinodhan KA, Director, Iwiz Android Robo Pvt Ltd., delivered the presidential address.

Speaking about this exciting robotic competition, Shri Vinodhan KA, said ‘With a core objective of encouraging young minds, especially at school level, to think, innovate, challenge & compete through robotics, we at Android Robo are conducting expo cum competitions for school children. Beyond robotics, the programme will help students develop capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership skills that will mould them well rounded and holistically fit for life’s challenges.”
