Chemplast Sanmar’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations

The Golden Jubilee celebrations of “Chemplast Sanmar Ltd” was a Grand Affair where internationally acclaimed Captains of Industry such as Mr. Sean D Keohane, President and CEO, Cabot Corporation, USA, Mr. Prem Watsa, Chairman, Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., Canada, Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company Ltd., Mr. MP Taparia, Managing Director, Supreme Industries, participated. The who’s who of Chennai were present on this colourful occasion where all speakers complemented Mr. N. Sankar, Chairman, Mr. N. Kumar, Vice Chairman and Mr. Vijay Sankar, Deputy Chairman, The SANMAR Group for the successful conduct of the company for 50 years.

On this occasion, a book about the 50 year Journey of Chemplast Sanmar was released. Noted Historian and Writer V. Sriram has authored this book. A cheque for Rs. 1 crore was presented to Mr. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IITM, towards the initial funding for the Chemplast Sanmar Zero Liquid Discharge Research Laboratory set up within the IITM campus. This facility can be used by all Industries for research purposes.




N Sankar, Chairman, Sanmar Group, who has been associated with Chemplast Sanmar since the day it was launched 50 years ago on May 4, 1967, said the PVC resin making company has had a roller coaster ride in the business.

“But it has sustained its growth while being true to its culture of a fair deal for all, innovation and excellence in implementation. If its first year of operation was among the toughest, the company’s 50th year performance is the best in its history with record production and sales. The company which started with an annual capacity of 6000 tonnes of PVC now has an aggregate capacity of 3.66 lakh tonnes”, he said.

In another emotional bonding between the Management and Staff, a Golden memento commemorating Mr. Sankar’s 50 years at Chemplast was handed over to him by Mr. PS Jayaraman, Chairman and Mr. Ramkumar Shankar, MD, Chemplast SANMAR on behalf of all the employees, amidst a thunderous applause and standing ovation.




Prem Watsa said that enterprises can sustain over a long term only with integrity and fairness. Fairfax, which prides itself on its ethical and long term approach to business saw these features in Sanmar.
