COLLEGE STUDENTS REMOVED PLASTIC WASTE

COLLEGE STUDENTS CREATE PUBLIC AWARENESS ON PLASTIC POLLUTION AND REMOVED PLASTIC WASTE FROM NANMANGALAM RESERVE FOREST

Exnora Greater Chennai in association with Prince Venkateswara Arts & Science College NSS, Gowrivakkam organized an Awareness program on Plastic Pollution and an Educative Nature visit to Nanmangalam Reserve Forest, which spans some 800 acres near Chennai.

College Students and Exnora Volunteers created public awareness on the Causes, Effects and Solutions on Plastic Pollution and removed the plastic waste from the Nanmangalam forest area.

The Students were also educated on the importance of Green cover, trees and herbs, mainly in forests to maintain ecological balance on Earth.




R.Govindaraj, President, Exnora Greater Chennai, addressed the students about the need to increase and maintain green cover, especially in the aftermath of the Vardah cyclone. “Exnora organizes such educative nature trips to bring awareness about our environment to students. However, it is everyone’s responsibility to increase green cover and we urge all students to plant and maintain trees near their homes and neighborhood” he said. He also stressed the importance of trees in our life and the need to protect the environment.

Mr. Perumal, Warden and three forest staff led the students on a guided tour of the forest and explained the botanical names of the various rare trees, plants and herbs, as well as different species of birds and animals.

The Students were thrilled to go on the nature trail up to the top of the hill with the beautiful forest below. They expressed happiness to be one with nature and vowed to do their mite to plant and maintain more trees.

Prince Venkateswara College Principal, Dr. M.Uma, NSS Coordinator, Ms. Sabin, Exnora Greater Chennai, President R. Govindaraj, Joint Secretary S. Deepak, Students Coordinator, G.Vasundara , A M Malathi and V.P Sarathy coordinated the event.
