Handbook on Role of Internal Auditors to be released

The Institute of Internal Auditors India, Madras Chapter is organising a “Two day National Conference on Internal Audit” on 3rd and 4th February 2017 (Friday & Saturday) at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Chennai. The Theme of the conference is “Staying Ahead, Staying Relevant”. It will focus on the use of technology to improve speed, quality and reporting systems of Internal Audit. Around 300 delegates from India, Asia, Middle East, Srilanka and other neighbouring countries are expected to participate. Mr. Richard Chambers, Global President  & CEO, Institute of Internal Auditors, USA will inaugurate the conference.

Mr. Giridhar Janardana, Conference Chairman said, “This two day national conference provides a forum to generate new thinking and a new vision. The Conference offers participants an opportunity to discuss topics under three parallel tracks with six technical sessions under each track covering Emerging Internal Audit Practices, Forensics and Fraud Management and the Rapid Risk Response Solutions. Eminent speakers from India and abroad will address the delegates. In addition, guest speakers from IIA Global Headquarters in Florida USA are also participating”.

There will be 18 Current and contemporary Technical Sessions and 2 panel discussions. Internal Audit Leaders, like Mr. P. R. Ramesh, Chairman, Deloitte Haskins & Sells will share his knowledge on “Internal Audit – Time for introspection and Mr. Subhashis Nath, Global Senior Partner, Axis Risk Consulting will speak on -“Staying ahead, Staying relevant”.




Mr. K. Vidyadharan, President, IIA India said, “Auditing and Technology have become indispensible in today’s complex business scenario particularly, when we are being asked to audit the new age companies. Looking at standards and how it can be applied for critical thinking is very essential in terms of output and technology. This Conference would be useful to Risk Management and Internal Audit Professionals, IS Audit professionals, CEOs, CAEs, CFOs, Chief Risk Officers, Heads of ERM, practicing Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Company Secretaries and Management Consultants.

Mr. P. R. Loganathan, Technical Chair for the Conference, and formerly Region of India Director, IIA Global, outlined the technical features of the Conference and provided a brief insight into the theme of the Conference “Staying Ahead Staying Relevant” and also a summary of the 18 Technical Sessions grouped under three parallel Tracks. He also emphasised how each of the Technical topics are all emerging topics in the current business scenario and the speakers in each session are very highly qualified professionals in the field of General Management, Information Technology and Internal Audit.

Mr. P. K. Ranganathan, President, IIA Madras Chapter said, “The special feature of this year’s conference is that the IIA has planned to reward excellence in Internal Audit by presenting  Three National Awards  under the categories:

  • Internal Auditor of the Year
  • Innovation Award
  • Agile Technology Application in Internal Audit.

The Second feature is that IIA will be releasing a handbook on Role of Internal Auditors in Internal Financial Controls which is unique and provides value for Internal Auditors. He also added, “Certified CIAs and CISAs are eligible for 12 hours CPE Credits. Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants and members of other professional institutes are also eligible as per their respective Institute’s guidelines.” He summed up at the end that the conference will be a wholesome knowledge feast for the participating delegates.

Established in 1941, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association with global headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Florida, USA. Generally, members work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security. India has SIX Chapters as part of The Institute of Internal Auditors India functioning at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata.

IIA Madras Chapter was inaugurated on February 22, 1977. During the last 40 years, the Chapter has made a significant contribution to the growth of the Internal Auditing profession in this part of the country. The Chapter organizes Conferences, Seminars and Workshops on contemporary topics connected with internal auditing. Currently the Chapter is also organising a Diploma Course on Internal Auditing jointly with the University of Madras. The Chapter conducts a monthly Professional Development Meetings (PDM) where invited speakers make presentations on technical topics related to internal auditing. Recently the Kochi Audit Club which is a part of Madras Chapter was inaugurated in July 2015.The Chapter is now in the process of forming an Audit Club at Coimbatore.
