Pongal 2016 Celebrations

Saveetha university celebrated Pongal in a traditional and meaningful way at University’s Thandalam campus.

Students and staff of Saveetha university (Saveetha group of Institutions) celebrated Pongal in a traditional and meaningful way on Wednesday at Saveetha University’s Thandalam Campus. It marks the harvest of crops and a special thanks giving to God and the nature.

Students and staff from Saveetha Dental college, Saveetha Medical College, Saveetha School of Engineering, Saveetha Nursing College, Saveetha College of Physiotherapy, Saveetha Engineering College, Saveetha School of Law, The Pupil- Saveetha Eco School, and Saveetha School of Management were participated in the festivities. Students and staff dressed in veshti with silk shirts, silk skirts, half sarees, and sarees, that completed the festive mood by creating the traditional.

The programme began with prayer song .It was followed by folk dances like Kollattam, Karagattam, Oyilattam and marital arts such as silambam were the performers danced around the Pongal pot. Pongal was prepared by the students and staff members. Various cultural competitions was conducted for students as well as staffs. The Pongal Exhibition will have 40 stalls for showcase traditional history of Tamil Culture. Nearly 5000 students participated in the festivities.

Saveetha University Founder and Chancellor Dr.N M Veeraiyan, Saveetha Medical College Director-Dr.Saveetha Rajesh, University Director of Academics-Dr.Deepak Nallaswamy,Saveetha School of Engineering-Director Ramya Deepak, Saveetha College of Engineering Director-Dr. Rajesh, and staff took part in the Pongal.
