REMEMBERING Dr. KALAM IN A “SPECIAL” WAY

Dr. Kalam believed and said “It is very easy to defeat someone, but it is very hard to win someone”.

In today’s world which is full of attempts to defeat someone, we also come across few who believe in winning someone.
It was a welcome surprise for the Arvind Foundation Team to be invited by actor Mr Soundararajan of Devi Foundation, an organization promoting literacy especially among young underprivileged girls, to be part of the commemoration ceremony of Dr. Kalam at Devi Foundation, Vadapalani.We paid homage to the visionary who loved children, by observing silence for 2 minutes. This was time to reflect on what he said, did and left behind for all of us.

This was followed by a discussion among the guests principally about Dr. Kalam. Our children shared what they knew and also learnt more about the missile man.

Saplings were planted and given away as gifts to carry back to our centers as a memory of this day.

Arvind Foundation (a charitable organization for Special Needs Children and Adult) started 11 years back and today we have about 140 children in 6 centers [K.K. Nagar – 2 centers, Porur, Kodaikanal (Mannavanur), Chengalpet, Kolappancherry (off Poonamallee)]. We run our centers with the help of a team of dedicated staff who are qualified & trained in this field and our foundation is conducted with the sole aim of providing equal opportunities, bringing in independency & reaching comprehensive curative education to underprivileged children with special needs. (Those children challenged with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down’s syndrome, Mental Retardation, ADHD, Low Vision etc).
