“Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research” (INSPIRE) is an Innovative programme initiated by the Department of Science and Technology to attract talents to the excitement and study of science at an early age. The space workshop makes it easy to discover or share new contents in this inspire camp 2015. Each activity support slightly different kinds of content in their workshop. Amazing Astronomy a short presentation was given by S. Venkata Narayanan, Zonal Business Manager, SPACE. This kind of workshop is to provide hands-on science experiment in Astronomy and Space Science as a part of the conference theme; this will ignite the spark of Imagination and Curiosity. Hands-on learning changes the student’s perception of science from a ‘burden’ to a ‘discovery’. Students enjoy challenges that are fun and work towards a better future.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Alagiriswamy, Asst. Prof SRM University Dept. of Physics and Nano Technology. He was motivating the students in his inaugural address “This will attract a rare mix of students from across the schools and those to whom these issues are relatively new. I ensure, there’s something for everyone. I am sure that this side-line event will be a memorable, highly educational and ‘not-to-be-missed’ event”. He joined with audience in appreciating the SPACE team which has discovered 20 new asteroids in the past six years.

A short presentation on Sun and its features were presented to the students. Through this workshop students learnt about how to safely observe the Sun. Students learnt how Sun looks different when viewed though a solar filter, about different solar features. Students realized the importance of using safe methods for solar observation. During the field observation students had hands-on practice of aligning a telescope towards Sun, viewing the Sun through telescope using solar filter and projection method. Pinhole projector and solar view goggles were used to have a safe look at the Sun.

Dr.K.Ramamurthi, Asst. Prof SRM University launched the Hydro Rocket and also mentioned that “This program is very informative about viewing the solar (sun). Rocket launching principle is enjoyed by the students. This has become food for thought for the students”. “The students enjoy a lot and therefore this serves a purpose thanks for the flawless efforts” said Dr. Alagiriswamy in his closing remarks of the event.

Khanishkaa one of the participating student said “It was an amazing experience, it is not every day you get to see the sunspots in the sun. I hope that they implement practical studies in schools from a younger age for better understanding of science. I hope to see the change soon”.
