Veteran Artist “Jyothilakshmi”

REAL POSITIVE ARTISTE BUT REELED NEGATIVE FILM ROLES

BY S. SHIVPPRASADH

Veteran Artist “Jyothilakshmi” has imparted several moral lessons to be emulated by us. Although she was undergoing   treatment for blood cancer she had never divulged about her ailment to anyone in the big or small screen industry. She had never allowed her post traumatic pain from that dreaded disease to overpower her during her daily hectic shooting schedule faced either from burning arc indoor lights or from outdoor scorching sun for her ongoing notable serial like “Valli”. She had not only acted superbly well in that role but “as face is the index of mind” she doubly ensured her mind & soul did not least expose her failing health when even latest highly technical TV cameras especially during close-up shots are capable of  capturing & highlighting every salient feature of an artist’s facial expression. She had just completed her film shoot titled “Kavalai Veyndaam” starring Jeeva in the lead & was shortly scheduled to join in a major role in the film titled “AAA” starring Silambarasan & directed by Adhik Ravichandran.

In short she did not want anyone to sympathise   with her deteriorating health nor least expected medical benefits from any quarters be it from Nadigar Sangam or Tamil Nadu State Government although she had acted with NTR, MGR & in Adimai Peen, Neerum Nerupum, Thedi Vandha Mapillai, etc with Hon’ble CM of Tamil Nadu Selvi J. Jayalalithaa & in 4 southern languages. In fact she had most actively participated in star cricket match & TV shows that were part of SIAA fund raising programmes.

As a 15 year old girl in 1963 she made her debut in “Periya Idathu Penn” starring MGR & her hit dance number “Kattodu Kuzhal Aada” still remain ever green. Similarly her dance in song “Pambai Udukkai Katti” from Rickshawkaran & “Kaalathaie Veyndravan Nee” from Adamai Penn still continued to linger in our mind. However her dance numbers in KS Ravikumar directed “Muthu” with Rajinikanth “Kokku Saiva Kokku” & in Bala directed “Sethu” starring Vikram “Kaana Karunkuyiley” would be the icing on the cake. She continued to make her acting presence felt not only in G.V. Prakash’s “Trisha Illena Nayanthara” film but also in TV serials like “Annamalai” & “Vasantham”.
