Awareness Program on Health and Environment Protection
Greater Chennai Corporation, ExNoRa Greater Chennai and Lions Club of Central Madras organized Awareness program on Health and Environment protection at Lady Wellington Govt. H.S.School, Chennai 600 005 recently at the school premises.
School Headmistress Tmt. Eswari Bhoopalan welcomed the dignitaries and students. She emphasized the the importance of the program at this juncture where entire world is concerned about climate change and global warming and finding the ways and means to protect the Environment and also Health of the people.
Mr. R.Govindaraj, President ExNoRa Greater Chennai advised the students to listen to the speeches going to be given by the experts in this field and take those points as a take home message and keep following them.
Mr. R.Sridharan Vice President ,ExNoRa Greater Chennai, spoke on the need and necessity for the protection of the Environment and a good health for all.
Lion. S.N.Harinarayanan, Chairman Projects L/C Central Madras urged students to listen to the good things, read good books, have friendship with fellow students and always do good to others and speak truth. Also said, as the school is having a vast area , students can develop a mini forest inside the campus and the waste water from the R.O.Plant can be channeled to these plants . He also said a batch of 5-10 students must take care of one plant.
Mr.G,Thanagaraj,Coordinator, National Green Corps said there is going to be competition for the well grown plants in the school campus, all over Tamil Nadu.The cash prizes ranges from Rs.5lacks to Rs.5,000/ He advised the school teachers and students use the available huge area available and make a big garden like environment. By doing this they can win the prize and also have a good cool atmosphere in the campus.
Finally the Chief Guest,, Dr.T.G.Srinivasan, Health Education Officer, Greater Chennai Corporation gave three very important practises to have a healthy environment and healthy living.
1.Importance of Hand wash. He demonstrated how a 20 seconds time is enough to wash our hands and the way /method it must washed.Also told on what occasions hand wash is a must.This will keep us all a clean hand for eating and not spreading any diseases.He told the importance of having a toilet in each house duly connected to the drainage system,the open toilet will spread diseases ..He asked the students to give the address of such locations, where toilets are not available, to the Headmistress and he will collect from her and do the needful immediately.
- He asked the students not to keep water stagnating any where in the house or in streets.By doing this we can avoid the breeding of mosquitoes.Similarly , by not accumulating unwanted thrash we can avoid flies also. If we do these two things , the Dengue , Malaria and other deceases can be controlled.Finally he said the importance of segregating the daily thrash in each our homes.Recyclable and non recyclable.
He urged the students do this segregation and help the Corporation authorities to dispose them easily.
e administered the Environment Oath to the students.
To commemorate the occasion, ExNoRa conducted a drawing competition and all 15 selected Girls were a certificate and Sapling as a prize.
Large number of Lions, Rotarian and ExNoRAians participated in the meeting.
