MCC conducted an awareness rally on AIDS

Department of Social Work (Aided) from Madras Christian College, Tambaram, conducted an awareness rally on AIDS

The students of the Department of Social Work (Aided) from Madras Christian College, Tambaram, conducted an awareness rally on AIDS at Tiruttani (near Kamala theatre) on the 1st of December 2016 – World Aids Day, as a part of the Rural Camp outreach programme. The students were smart in selecting a very busy junction in which they conducted the program. Several people from various walks of life were present during the program. The students not only distributed awareness pamphlets and AIDS red ribbons but also conducted a street theatre on modes of transmission of HIV/AIDS.




This program was conducted so that the target audience is made aware of HIV/AIDS, both what it is and how to prevent it. The celebrations also included information of where to go to get their blood checked to diagnose the disease. The celebrations included a host of programs. The students displayed all the information through creative, attractive and easily conceivable methods, so that the audience understands everything effectively. The programs that were conducted were street theatre, a silent rally with placards of information about AIDS and distribution of pamphlets.

World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988.




The students were camping at Gollakuppam, Tiruttani, for the past ten days as a part of their academic curriculum. The students reached out to the communities nearby and also carried out a Veterinary Camp, awareness on violence against women, importance of education, problems of alcoholism, and on importance of health and personal hygiene. The fieldwork communities included Gollakuppam, Thumbikkulam, Ponpadi and Thazhavedu. The camp started on 22nd November and ended on 2nd December 2016.
