The Post Graduate Department of Media Management, M.O.P Vaishnav College For Women conducted a two day PR Campaign titled ‘TAKE DIVERSION – Explore New Paths on 17th and 18th of December 2019 in the college premises. The campaign intended to create awareness amongst students about various off-beat and unconventional career paths they can take after their basic college education. The event on Tuesday commenced with the inauguration by the Chief guest, Ashok Selvan, one of the finest and celebrated actors of the Tamil film industry. Mr. Selvan spoke about his life journey and encouraged the students to try every possible career option and choose the best one. This was followed by a Q&A session and the teaser of his upcoming movie ‘Oh My Kadavule!’.

Around 1000 students attended the campaign, both from M.O.P Vaishnav and other city colleges. The speakers for the first day were Rohini Rau (Hospital Clown), Subhiksha Venkat and Priyadarshini Vijay (social media influencers), Badhri Seshadhri, founder of Motta Maadi Music and Hema Subramanian (Entrepreneur at home cooking show). Rohini addressed topics like hospital clowning, sailing and arts. “Stage has been a huge platform in my career. I don’t have a set of plans. I believe that when opportunities come your way then you must be in a position to grab them.”, she said. The second day of the campaign was kick started by the budding stand-up comedian, Mr. Gurumurthy Rathnam. He addressed the students on the importance of understanding the core of every career before stepping into it.

His session was followed by a panel discussion comprising of experts from different off-beat arenas like RJ Toshila, RJ Syed, Abhishek Raja (Cinemapayyan), Durgesh, Vaidhya M. Sundar and Divya Rajkumar (Madras Meter), Mridul Sahuwala (IlluminArty) and Ekta Kothari (Foodtalk Chennai). The panelists delved into the intricacies of unconventional careers. They spoke about the different challenges prevailing in the media industry, importance of social media and collaborations in today’s world and how to build organic followers. One common thing that all the panelists believe in is to stay grounded and be true to your own self. Every presentation was followed by a Q&A session from the students.
