Corporation School Students prove their mettle Winners going to Malaysia
In an Elocution Competition exclusively conceived for Corporation Schools in Chennai, captioned “Wings to Fly”, 8 Students from different Corporation Schools have done their School proud by winning the finals and also booking a seat for an educational trip to Malaysia. This was organized by the The Rotary Club of Madras East in association with the Corporation of Chennai. The finals were held in the presence of 700 students at Amma Auditorium, Shenoy Nagar.
Ms. Asia Mariam, IAS, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Administration and Mr. R. Nataraj, IPS (Retd.) distributed the prizes to the triumphant students. The 8 winners will go to Malaysia for an educational cum sightseeing trip for 4 days in May 2016.
70 Corporation schools participated in the competition where 2000 students took part. The contest in two categories: Junior level – 6th, 7th & 8th Standard and Senior level – 9th and 11th Standard, was held both in English and Tamil.

Ms. Asia Mariam, IAS, said, “The School Students have demonstrated amazing zeal, confidence and oratory skills in this competition. Even today, there is a misconception that corporation school students lack the ability that builds self confidence and stunts the growth. But, this “Wings to fly” program organised by the The Rotary Club of Madras East clearly proved that these students can stand their grounds against any competition provided they are given the opportunity. Congratulations to the winning students and the Rotary.”
Former DGP Mr. R. Nataraj said, “What these children lacked in comfort and lifestyle, they made up by their dedication, devotion and determination. All these children are living examples like our late President Dr. Kalam and are aiming to reach the sky.
District Governor Rtn. CR Raju, RI Dist 3230 and Rtn. Jayanthi Govindan, President, RCM East who organised the entire competition along with Rtn. Magesh Pattabhiraman, Chairman, Wings to Fly and Rtn. Babu Krishnamoorthy, Secretary, RCM East were also present.
